12 kg of hashish seized near old port in Thoothukudi

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 12 kg of hashish near the old port in Thoothukudi and arrested four persons, including a CISF personnel, according to information available here on Thursday.
Acting on a tip off that drugs were smuggled from the old port in Thoothukudi, the DRI officials continuously monitored the area around the old port. Two individuals reached the old port on a two-wheeler. The officials immediately intercepted them and searched them.
During the search, six packets each weighing 2 kg of hashish were found on the two-wheeler, which was intended to be smuggled to Maldives through a boat from the old port. Following this, the officials arrested the individuals identified as Jesuraja, 34, and Sudhakar, 33, from Fathima Nagar in Thoothukudi.
The officials arrested the boatman Kingsely, 56, from George Road in Thoothukudi and a CISF personnel Marimuthu, 30, from Korampallam for allegedly assisting in smuggling.
The DRI officials seized 12 kg of hashish, where the market value was estimated at about₹20 crore in the international markets and further investigations are on.
