While AI chatbots draw relentless flak for being manipulative and even driving teens and adults to the verge of un-aliving themselves, there are rare occasions where these artificial intelligence bots bring about a chuckle or two. An Indian grandma (or ammachi in Malayalam) was introduced to OpenAI’s most viral product that is over two years old now (how time flies). The video of her chat went viral on social media.

Kinda apprehensive, the 88-year-old ammachi mustered up to speak with the AI on her grandson’s smartphone. The very first conversation the ammachi had with the AI bot was the declaration of her BP (blood pressure). The second conversation was a straight-up no-holds-bar query about her grandson. She asked ChatGPT if the AI knew why her laadla grandson ain’t marrying at 29. ‘Twenty-eight,’ the grandson corrected. [Does that matter?] Anyway, the AI gave a very diplomatic reply

There could be many reasons why your grandson might not be interested in marriage. It could be personal goals, career focus, or past experiences.”

The granny was quick to take a jibe at the grandson, asking him whether he had any “past experiences.” “Maybe,” the grandson giggled.

The ammachi-ChatGPT chat went on for a few more minutes. The utterly delighted ammachi proceeded to jot it down from the transcription in her personal journal.

The internet melted over the cute ammachi’s innocent conversation with the AI.
