ISL clubs, players to file petition in Supreme Court to find quick solution on Indian Super League impasse

In a development that could give impetus to the possibility of the Indian Super League (ISL) happening this season, a majority of the ISL clubs have decided to file a petition in the Supreme Court to find a speedy solution to the impasse.

The ISL — men’s top-flight in India — has become uncertain — after running successfully between 2014 and 2025 — this season after the recent bidding process, managed by KPMG and planned by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), failed to find a commercial partner for the league.

AIFF’s contract with Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) — which ran the league till 2025 — ends in December this year, and the absence of a new investor has put a big question mark over the league ecosystem.

According to sources, a meeting between the CEOs of ISL clubs and the AIFF president, Kalyan Chaubey, held on Wednesday, led to the decision on the petition.

Several player representatives of different clubs also voiced their support to help the AIFF in finding a way out. Both the players and clubs are looking to file separate petitions in the Supreme Court in this regard.
