‘Pressure tactics to malign poll body’: EC rejects poll bias claim in Delhi elections | India News

NEW DELHI: Election Commission of India on Tuesday alleged that there were “deliberate pressure tactics to malign” the poll body in the Delhi elections after Aam Aadmi Party accused it of indulging in “hooliganism” by not taking any action against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and kin for “violating” the MCC.
“The 3-member Commission collectively noted repeated deliberate pressure tactics to malign ECI in Delhi Elections, as if it is a single member body & decided to have constitutional restraint, absorbing such outbursts with sagacity, stoically & not to be swayed by such insinuations,” the poll body said in a post on X.
“Action on issues raised by political parties & candidates are taken in each instance by over 1.5 lakh officials in #DelhiAssemblyElection2025 who are functioning within established legal framework, robust processes & SoPs ensuring fair play & non partisan conduct,” it added.
Earlier today, Delhi CM Atishi had criticised the poll body for not taking any action against Ramesh Bidhuri’s family members for “violating” MCC.
“The Election Commission is unbelievable! Ramesh Bidhuri Ji’s family members are openly violating the Model Code of Conduct, yet no action is being taken against them. I filed a complaint and called the police and @ECISVEEP, but instead, they registered a case against me! Rajiv Kumar Ji, how much more will you undermine the electoral process?” Atishi said.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal too launched a sharp attack on EC accusing it of indulging in “hooliganism against the Aam Aadmi Party”.
“Election Commission filed a police case against Delhi CM after she complained about the open hooliganism. So now this is the official stand of Delhi Police and Election Commission- The ‘job’ of the Delhi Police and the Election Commission is to themselves indulge in hooliganism against the Aam Aadmi Party, provide protection to the hooliganism of the BJP, and distribute liquor, money and goods. If anyone stops them from doing this ‘work’, a case will be filed against him for obstructing the “work” of the police and the Election Commission,” he said.
Delhi is set to go to polls on February 5. Votes would be counted on February 8.
