AUS vs ENG, Champions Trophy 2025: Inglis relishes ‘special felling’ of century; Buttler looks to move on

As a packed Gaddafi Stadium chanted his name, Josh Inglis went on to score his maiden ODI century and helped Australia complete the highest chase in the history of the ICC men’s tournament, in the Champions Trophy 2025 here on Saturday.
The batter admitted that it was a ‘very special feeling’ to come up with a ton and pave the way for the win.
“We knew how we started the World Cup in 2023 and I think in an ICC event, you want to have an impact and make the team win a game,” Inglis said, adding with a smile that he will reflect on the innings later.

With the few fans settling in, the Australian camp decided to take the game deep enough as it would be tough on the bowlers, and Inglis managed to execute the plans to perfection.
“The partnership between Shorty (Matthew Short) and Marnus (Labuschagne) set the platform,” he said, adding that while batting at the end with Glenn Maxwell, he did not look at the scoreboard. “Because we know what Maxi can do,” Inglis said.
Meanwhile, England captain Jos Buttler said that his team will learn from the mistakes and move on, hoping to bounce back. “They put together a really nice partnership. They played well. We needed to try and break that.” he quipped.

The skipper also lauded Ben Duckett for his record innings (165 off 143 balls). “Duckett played fantastically well. He’s been great over the years. We will let the dust settle on this game and look ahead,” Buttler said.
England will take on Afghanistan in the next game at the Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday, while Australia faces South Africa in Rawalpindi a day prior.
