AI-Generated Fake GTA 6 ‘Leaks’ Go Viral On X, Misleads Millions Of Fans
Grand Theft Auto 6 has once again found itself at the centre of internet chaos, this time not because of real leaks, but because of hyper-realistic AI-generated videos circulating on social media. An X (formerly Twitter) account named “@zapactugta6” has been posting short clips that appear to show new GTA 6 gameplay, complete with familiar camera angles, visual styles, and in-game movement. These videos have racked up hundreds of thousands of views, with one deleted post reportedly crossing eight million views in just 24 hours.
But none of it is real.
The clips are entirely AI-generated, created using advanced video models that mimic Rockstar’s visual style. For many fans, the realism was convincing enough to spark confusion, and in some cases, excitement, before community notes and reporters stepped in to clarify the truth. According to IGN, the account’s posts were intentionally designed to test how easily audiences could be misled in 2025’s era of hyper-realistic AI.
The Creator Claims It Was an “Experiment”
After heavy backlash and accusations of attention-seeking, the anonymous user behind the ZapActu account reached out to IGN to explain their intentions. They insisted the stunt was not malicious, saying the goal was to “observe people’s reactions and demonstrate how easy it has become to blur the line between reality and AI-generated content.”
The user later apologised, admitting that the viral reaction was far bigger than expected. “I simply wanted to create something intriguing that could bring people together and spark discussion within the GTA 6 community,” they said, before brushing the situation off as a “massive joke” with a casual: “Sorry for the false hope. Lol.”
Why Fans Reacted So Strongly
The GTA community is extremely sensitive to leaks, partly because of the massive 2022 Rockstar Games hack, which exposed early development footage and led to widespread misinformation. Rockstar has since tightened internal security, even reportedly firing over 30 employees for sharing internal communications in a public forum.
With GTA 6 already delayed again, fan impatience is high. That frustration made the fabricated clips even more believable, and more disappointing when they were revealed to be fake.
🚨HOLY SHIT! This is what GTA 6’s NIGHT scenes actually look like IN BROAD DAYLIGHT thanks to AI! All the insane details that were hidden in the dark… 🥳

A Glimpse Into the Future of Misinformation
The viral incident has intensified concerns about AI-generated misinformation. The videos were polished enough to pass as early gameplay, demonstrating how difficult spotting fakes could become as AI tools evolve. The posts also reignited debate around social media hype, with some users calling the stunt harmless fun and others branding it manipulative.
What remains clear is that GTA 6 hype is so immense that even AI-generated “leaks” can shake the gaming community.
