Amid Outrage Over PlayStation’s 24-Hour Outage, Sony Offers Plus Members 5-Day Extension; Internet Is Not Impressed

Back in April 2011, when Playstation suffered an outage, the users were rewarded with two free games as compensation. The 2011 attack was an external intrusion attack causing a network outage that lasted 23 days. The hackers gained access to 77 million personal data of PSN (PlayStation Network) users in the attack, which included credit card details as well. The current outage that lasted for 24 hours from February 7 till 8 reminded the users of the 14-year-old attack, causing much paranoia amongst PSN members.
Amid the outrage on social media and the Big Bowl’s game throwing shades at the PSN outage, Sony announced an automatic extension of an additional five days of service for Plus members. The company also “apologized for the inconvenience.” Sony pinned the outage on “operational issues.” Meanwhile, Krispy Kreme has offered free glazed donuts to affected users for a limited period. You’ll have to fly to the US to avail of their limited offer.

The PlayStation Network outage proves PC gamers were right to resist its mandatory sign-in requirement. https://t.co/zOWumJN74A

Very interesting that the Playstation network had their longest network outage in quite some time and the halftime show stage was designed to look like a Playstation controller… pic.twitter.com/d7inN8GFc7

The 2011 PlayStation outage sucked balls but receiving two free games in return was pretty cool. pic.twitter.com/8d1zrtKTqp

Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service.

The internet over the roasted Sony over the PSN’s compensation for the outage. One user wrote, “That’s like getting a small fry after they mess up your entire order.” Another user jibed, “I’m not a PlayStation owner, but this feels very unacceptable.” However, not all PSN fans were outraged. Some called the disgruntled users ranting over the compensation as entitled brats. Netizens also slammed the company over its “tone-deaf communication,” which failed to explain the exact cause of the outage.

The amount of people begging for “compensation” from the outage is actually ridiculous, or do these people act this entitled for anything that’s of inconvenience in their lives?

What was the reason behind Network failure? this is extremely shady and tone deaf communication.
I lost my profile back in ps3 hack and this one of the reason why i don’t trust this Brand atleast security wise. pic.twitter.com/06ymQcxxhW
