Andhra Pradesh will continue to witness above-normal minimum temperatures and normal to above-normal maximum temperatures in January, as per the rainfall and winter outlook released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on January 1, Wednesday, for the first three months of 2025.

In December too, most parts of the country, including Andhra Pradesh, experienced above-normal minimum temperatures as predicted by the IMD. Though the forecast suggested that maximum temperatures would be above normal for the month, it remained below normal or normal in most parts of Andhra Pradesh.

The IMD outlook suggests that most parts of the country, including Andhra Pradesh, would witness normal to above-normal rainfall in January, February and March.

Andhra Pradesh received above-normal rainfall in December, along with the other parts of the Southern Peninsula comprising five sub-divisions including Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and Karaikal, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala and Mahe.

The rainfall received by these regions last month is the second highest since 1901, the IMD report says.

It may be noted that Andhra Pradesh recorded normal rainfall during the North East monsoon as it received 316.5 mm as against the normal of 287.2 mm.

While many districts in Coastal Andhra Pradesh received deficient rainfall, all districts in Rayalaseema, except for Kurnool, recorded excess rainfall between October 1 and December 31.

East Godavari is the only district in the State to be largely deficient in rain, while Sri Sathya Sai district received large excess rainfall during the three-month period.
