Haryana held its nerve in a dramatic Super Over finish to edge past Punjab after both sides finished locked at 207 in a high-scoring Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy match in Hyderabad.
Asked to bat, Haryana rode on half-centuries from skipper Ankit Kumar and all-rounder Nishant Sindhu to post an imposing total. Ankit struck a brisk 51 off 26 balls, setting the tempo at the top, while Sindhu anchored the middle overs with a composed 61 from 31 deliveries. Sumit Kumar provided the late flourish with a rapid 28 to take Haryana to 207 for nine. For Punjab, Ashwani Kumar was the standout with the ball, returning figures of three for 31 from his four overs.
Punjab’s chase began on a shaky note as Abhishek Sharma fell early for six and Prabhsimran Singh followed soon after for 20, both dismissed by Anshul Kamboj, who finished with two for 26. The momentum swung sharply, however, when Anmolpreet Singh launched a counterattack, smashing a scintillating 81 off just 37 balls. He found support at the death from Sanvir Singh, whose unbeaten 30 off 16 balls ensured Punjab hauled itself back to force a tie at the end of 20 overs.
The drama intensified in the Super Over. Punjab’s hopes were dashed instantly as Abhishek and Sanvir were both dismissed for first-ball ducks by Kamboj, leaving the side shell-shocked. With only two runs required to win, Haryana sealed the result without fuss.
