Indian men edged Korea in a thrilling final to clinch the gold medal at the Asian Archery Championships in Dhaka on Friday.
The trio of Yashdeep Bhoge, Atanu Das and Rahul defeated Korea’s Seo Mingi, Kim Yeachan and Jang Jiho in the shoot-off, securing a 5-4 victory.
The first two sets ended with identical scores of 56-56. However, Korea clinched the third set 57-51 and took a 4-2 lead as the Indians shot four 8s, a 9 and a 10.
A tie in the fourth set would have been enough for the Koreans to bag their seventh straight gold medal but two disastrous arrows, scoring a 7 and an 8, meant that they could only manage a total of 53 in reply to India’s 57.

In the shoot-off, both teams scored 29 with two 10s and a nine but the Indians won courtesy of having the closest arrow to the centre.
In the mixed team event, India finished fourth after being clean swept by Koreans Jang Minhee and Seo Mingi in the bronze medal match. Jang and Seo bagged the opener 38-35 and survived 38-37 in a close second set before dominating the third 39-34.
Later in the day, Ankita Bhakat, Deepika Kumari and Sangeeta will be in action in the women’s recurve individual semifinals while B. Dhiraj and Rahul will compete in the last-four stage of the men’s individual event.
Overall, India has won six medals – four gold and two silver – at the ongoing edition of the continental event so far.
