GUWAHATI Ayushman Bharat services in Assam’s private hospitals have not been suspended, the National Health Authority said on Thursday (November 27, 2025).
Doctors associated with the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, on November 25, claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government has weakened health services in the State’s rural areas.
The National Health Authority, responding to the allegation, said the State government restricted 263 super-speciality procedures in the empanelled private hospitals across Assam “to ensure the rational and optimal utilisation of Ayushman Bharat resources and to encourage greater treatment delivery through public hospitals”.
It clarified that Ayushman Bharat services in private hospitals were operational.
The authority further said that the Assam government issued a notification on December 16, 2024, to strengthen the public healthcare ecosystem by delivering services through government-run hospitals. The notification came into effect on December 31, 2024.
“Additionally, the State has deployed dedicated Arogya Mitras in public hospitals to strengthen service delivery further and ensure that beneficiaries receive high-quality healthcare support,” the National Health Authority said in a statement.
Members of the Congress’s Health Service Cell also stated that 122 doctors and some 22,000 health sector employees under the National Health Mission are set to lose their jobs by November 30.
