BJP Councillor (Ward 14) G. Dhanabalan on Friday staged a dharna demanding that the Dindigul Corporation Council meeting, which was last held in August, be conducted this month. Only if the meeting is held, public grievances could be discussed and redressed, he said.
In a letter to the Director of Municipal Administration P. Madhusudhan Reddy, he pointed out the Dindigul Corporation Council meeting was last held on August 22. It has been more than two months now since the meeting was held.
Several works pertaining to underground drainage, sanitation, drinking water, storm water drains, and roads were pending. Also, there were several complaints from the public about the condition of roads and other infrastructure. As a result people were put to much hardship. However, certain works were still being carried out in some of the wards without proper discussions being held claiming that the permission for these works had already been granted. There was a revenue loss, he said.
Though the issue was brought to the notice of the officials concerned, no necessary steps were taken to conduct the Corporation Council meeting. The meeting should be conducted every month as several issues were pending which needed to be discussed and redressed, he said.
Following the dharna staged by Mr. Dhanabalan, Dindigul Corporation Commissioner M. Senthil Murugan contacted the BJP Councillor and assured him that the meeting would be held this month. Mr. Dhanabalan called off the protest for now and said that he would stage a dharna again if the council meeting was not held as assured.
