Asserting that the recent caste census conducted by the Telangana government was a role model for the country, Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar has said that those who missed out the survey can register their details with the officials concerned from February 16 to 28.
Of the total 1.15 crore families in the State, nearly 1.12 crore families have voluntarily provided details during the caste survey, he said, calling upon the remaining 3.1% of people who missed out the caste census to avail the opportunity to give their details to the enumerators.
Addressing a press conference in Karimnagar on Thursday, he alleged that almost all the BRS top leaders did not participate in the recent caste survey but unleashed false propaganda against the historic caste census, a gigantic exercise meticulously conducted in a judicious manner. “It shows the BRS leadership’s anti-BC mindset,” he said, adding the BRS leaders who avoided the caste survey should furnish their details during the ensuing 12-day exercise to show their sincerity to the cause of welfare of BCs and other marginalised communities.
Terming the BJP as ‘pro-capitalist’ and ‘anti-weaker sections’ party, Mr Prabhakar alleged that the saffron party was against giving reservations to BCs, SCs and STs in proportion to their population across the country.
Reiterating that the Congress government in Telangana is committed to give a statutory backing to provide 42% reservations to BCs in local bodies, education, and employment, he said a special session of the State Assembly will be convened next month to table a Bill to this effect.
