Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated adaptation of The Odyssey continues to build excitement with the fresh addition of Emmy-winning actor Jon Bernthal. Bernthal joins an already star-studded ensemble that includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron.
Set for release on July 17, 2026, The Odyssey marks Nolan’s follow-up to his critically acclaimed Oppenheimer. Universal has described the film as a “mythic action epic,” shot across global locations using cutting-edge IMAX technology. Based on Homer’s legendary 8th-century BCE poem, the story follows the perilous journey of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, as he battles gods and monsters on his quest to return home after the Trojan War. Fans can expect depictions of iconic moments, including Odysseus’ encounters with the Cyclops, the Sirens, and Circe, alongside the hero’s reunion with his wife, Penelope.
While details about Bernthal’s role remain under wraps, the actor is riding high after his Emmy win for The Bear and has a packed slate, including a return as The Punisher in Disney+’s Daredevil and starring roles in The Accountant 2 and Netflix’s His & Hers.
Production on The Odyssey is set to begin next month.
