Coimbatore collectorate received a bomb threat on Friday, prompting the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) to conduct extensive searches.
The police said that the official email id of the District Collector received a threat mail at 8.36 a.m. It stated that different collectorates that received the mail will witness blasts at the same time.
In addition to the collectorate, the email stated that the municipality office in Coimbatore would also witness a blast.
The BDDS team could not locate any suspicious materials during the searches and declared the email threat to be a hoax. Friday’s was the ninth hoax bomb threat received by the collectorate in the recent past.
Bomb threat for Town Hall area
The police said that another bomb threat received late on Thursday claimed that bombs would explode at multiple locations, including the clock tower at Town Hall.
BDDS teams and police personnel were deployed at the location. They carried out searches at the clock tower, Koniamman Temple, Sangameswarar temple at Kottaimedu and Coimbatore Corporation office. Senior police officers were present during the searches that continued upto 1 a.m., Friday.
