Coimbatore Corporation issues warning over improper disposal of ready-mix concrete
The Coimbatore Corporation has issued a warning to ready-mix concrete (RMC) firms against improper disposal of waste..
According to civic officials, vehicles delivering RMC to construction sites have been found discharging surplus concrete onto roads, into stormwater drains, and in open public spaces. This has led to the accumulation of hardened concrete in unintended areas, posing risks. The deposits obstruct water flow in drains and increase the likelihood of road accidents.
Assistant City Health Officer K. Boopathy said that in addition to dumping excess material, some operators wash down lorries on-site, allowing residual slurry to enter the drainage system. Once set, this material restricts the movement of runoff water and contributes to blockages.
He added that a fine of ₹10,000 was imposed on one RMC company for dumping slurry on a city road. The Corporation has warned that further violations will invite stricter action, with fines ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹1 lakh depending on the severity of the offence.
