The cybercrime police in Coimbatore have arrested a youth for morphing a woman colleague’s photos using an artificial intelligence (AI) tool.
The accused has been identified as P. Manikandan, 24, of K.K. Pudur in the city, who had been working in an automobile dealership.
The police said that Manikandan followed the complainant on a social media platform and downloaded her photos. He used a popular AI tool to morph them.
The woman approached the cybercrime police with a complaint after he sent her one of the morphed photos through a messaging platform.
The police registered a case against Manikandan on October 4 for offences under Sections 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 67 and 67A of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, and 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.
The police questioned Manikandan on Thursday (October 23, 2025) and he admitted to have committed the offence. The police recovered his mobile phone, which he used to morph the photos. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody late on Thursday.
The police added that the accused had not circulated the morphed images with anyone.
