Collector inspects school buses – The Hindu
The fitness inspection of school vehicles commenced at the Manjakuppam grounds here on Saturday.
A Committee, headed by Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar and other officials conducted checks on school buses to see if they satisfied the stipulated 25-point norms. The inspections would go on for the next few days.
The officials checked the vehicles for fire extinguishers, first-aid boxes, emergency exits, and speed governors. They also made sure that attenders were appointed in the buses to assist students in boarding and alighting.
Drivers will also be subjected to scrutiny and are required to have a minimum of five years of experience. The school managements have been given a week’s time to set right shortcomings, an official said.
A demonstration was conducted by firefighters on ways of evacuating students from school vehicles safely during emergency and ways of dousing fire. Officials from the School Education and Transport departments participated.
