“Completely Scrambled My Brain”: Anti-Ageing Millionaire Bryan Johnson’s Horse Tranquilizer Injection Backfires

Bryan Johnson, an American entrepreneur known for his anti-ageing experiments, recently revealed details of his latest self-experiment involving ketamine, a horse tranquillizer. After previously undergoing plasma exchanges and stem cell injections, Johnson injected himself with ketamine and monitored his brain activity for 15 days to study its impact. He reported that the anaesthetic caused his brain activity to become “completely scrambled,” marking another bold step in his ongoing pursuit to defy aging.
“I injected the horse tranquilizer Ketamine and tracked my brain activity for 15 days. It completely scrambled my brain. In a world-first, we explored what happens to the brain before, during, and after ketamine treatment. We also discovered how long it took for my brain to return to ‘normal.’ The results were surprising,” the tweet stated.

Johnson used Kernel Flow, a brain-computer interface developed by his company, to analyze and compare his brain activity before and after administering ketamine. Prior to the experiment, his brain activity showed rigid and predictable patterns, but after ketamine ingestion, it became more adaptable and unpredictable. By the third day, his brain activity gradually returned to its original state, marking the end of what he called the “therapeutic window.”

In describing the effects, Johnson explained that ketamine completely scrambled his brain’s activity patterns. Instead of following predictable routes between key brain hubs, the activity rerouted through smaller, less-utilized areas, resembling air traffic rerouted to smaller airports around the world. He suggested that this increased flexibility and variation in brain activity could potentially lead to new connections and ways of thinking.

Johnson has made headlines for his extravagant spending on experimental “de-ageing” treatments, aiming to turn back the clock on his biological age. The 45-year-old is known for his extreme methods, such as receiving blood transfusions from his teenage son. He invests $2 million annually in medical diagnostics and treatments, alongside a strict regimen of diet, sleep, and exercise, in his quest to slow or potentially reverse the ageing process.
