The GVMC council approved 131 proposals out of 132 during its meeting held at the office on Friday (November 21). The GVMC introduced a 90-point agenda and a 42-point table agenda during the meeting. After thorough discussions, the council passed key proposals, including to establishment of the much-anticipated three ‘Smart Street Vending Zones’ in the city.

The GVMC announced that the first proposed smart street-vending zone will be established at GVMC Central Park, featuring container-model vending units. A total of 110 units are planned at this location, with an estimated project cost of ₹6 crore.

Two additional smart street-vending zones are proposed at Ward 8 in Yendada and another at Ward 86 under the Duvvada Flyover in Kurmannapalem. Each of these zones will include 70 modular, pre-fabricated kiosks and will be developed at a cost of ₹4 crore each. These facilities will feature solar-powered lighting, drinking water, seating areas, CCTV camera surveillance, digital payment infrastructure, sanitation amenities and designated spaces for branding and signboards.

The GVMC council rejected the proposal to rename Relli Veedhi as ‘Sri Sabari Nagar’. The proposal was introduced following a request from the local corporator, who said that the existing name, associated with a particular community, is causing inconvenience among the local youth and is said to be casteist.
