Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Thursday (October 23, 2025) demanded an immediate assessment of crop loss in the Cauvery delta.

In a post on social media, Mr. Dhinakaran said the latest spell of heavy rainfall had damaged not only paddy but also other foodgrains, such as pulses and millets. Farmers in the region had complained that due to the lack of measures by the government to tackle the flow of paddy in view of the increase in coverage of the crop during the Kuruvai cultivation season, “lakhs of paddy bags” had been damaged.

Not only the harvested paddy but also the crop that was about to be harvested had been hit during the rain spell. The government should intensify the process of paddy procurement, Mr. Dhinakaran added.
