Disunity in INDIA bloc caused debacle in Delhi elections, says Mutharasan CPI

CPI State secretary R. Mutharasan on Sunday said the Opposition INDIA bloc could have prevented the victory of the BJP in the Delhi election if the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party, and other like-minded parties had fought the election unitedly.
He told reporters here that when INDIA bloc fought unitedly, the BJP suffered a major setback and could not get a majority in the last Parliament elections. The same approach should have been applied in the Delhi election as well. Instead of joining hands with one another, the INDIA bloc parties fought election independently because of egoistic approach. It had caused them dearly and helped the BJP.
This had taught a lesson to the Congress and others, Mr. Mutharasan said but added that the BJP win was temporary, it could be defeated if the INDIA bloc parties fought the elections unitedly.
Asked about the recent cases of crime against women and children in the State, the CPI leader said it was true that more such incidents were reported. Most of them occurred in schools and colleges. It was a cause for concern and it was condemnable. The crime committed by a few teachers here and there had emerged as a major issue. It should be stopped. The State government should bring all, whether they were teachers or others, to book. They must be strongly punished.
