In a shocking incident, a domestic help allegedly brutally killed a pet dog of her employer inside a lift of an apartment building on Kannur Road in Bengaluru recently.

The brutal act was caught on CCTV camera installed in the lift. The accused, identified as Pushpalatha, 29, was seen lifting the dog with a leash and then smashing it on the floor of the lift killing the pet, called Goofy, on the spot.

The visual shows the accused dragging the lifeless pup out of the lift to the flat.

The CCTV footage has gone viral, drawing much ire from the public and animal lovers.

She reportedly told the owner, Rashika K.R., that the dog had died mysteriously and she was not aware how. Suspecting her behaviour, Rashika reported the matter to the police who verified the CCTV footage which revealed how the domestic help had killed the dog.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and also under section 325 (mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming, or rendering useless any animal) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and arrested her.

The accused was hired in September as a domestic help with a salary of ₹23,000 a month. During the interrogation, Pushpalatha reportedly claimed that she was frustrated with the pet’s continuous barking.

The probe revealed that she had recently been caught stealing valuables from the house and had been warned against repeating it. The police suspected that she killed the pet as an act of revenge.
