Drunk driving: probe under way against interstate bus driver
The enforcement wing of the Motor Vehicles department (MVD) has initiated an investigation against an intersate private bus driver accused of driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
The incident came to light through a video released by one of the passengers on Thursday (November 27, 2025), in which the driver was seen shouting at them in an intoxicated state.
The bus which was on its way from Kozhikode to Bengaluru was stopped in Mysuru following the passengers’ intervention. The driver’s assistant was also drunk, according to the passengers who later took up the issue with the MVD squad in Kozhikode city.
MVD sources said the bus involved in the incident would be seized soon as part of the continuing inquiry. There were more than 20 passengers in the bus when the incident took place on November 24, they said. The complainants who sought the help of the MVD said the driver involved in the incident had fled from the spot with the liquor bottles he had kept inside the bus. The journey resumed from Mysuru after another driver arrived at the spot following the instruction of the Kozhikode-based travel company, they claimed.
