Elon Musk Shares Video Of Tesla Robot Dancing, Sparks Online Frenzy

When Elon Musk posts, the internet listens—and this time, it was a dancing robot that stole the spotlight. On Wednesday, Musk shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) of Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, showcasing fluid, human-like dance moves. The clip quickly went viral, drawing awe and amusement from viewers. Initially posted without a caption, Musk later clarified, “This is real, real-time,” highlighting the robot’s impressive capabilities and sparking fresh buzz around Tesla’s advancements in robotics.

For the unversed, Tesla introduced the idea of a humanoid robot in 2021 during AI Day with just a concept and a human in a robot suit. Since then, Optimus has made major strides. The first functional prototypes were shown in 2022, demonstrating basic mobility. By 2023, the Gen 2 model could sort blocks, strike yoga poses, and dance. Tesla also enhanced Optimus’s hand dexterity, increasing its degrees of movement from 11 to a planned 22 in future versions.

Elon Musk sees Optimus as one of Tesla’s most important innovations. Unlike typical robots that follow set instructions, Optimus learns through real-world experiences and simulations. This ability positions it as a breakthrough in collaborative robotics, especially in manufacturing. With potential applications across industries, Tesla estimates Optimus could tap into a $25 trillion market and contribute to sustainability by handling physically demanding jobs.
Elon Musk recently revealed that production of Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robots faced delays due to China’s export restrictions on rare earth magnets, according to Reuters. During an earnings call, Musk explained that China demanded assurances the magnets wouldn’t be used for military purposes. He emphasized that Tesla’s use of the materials was strictly for building its humanoid robots.
