Employees’ Union urges APSRTC to address delay in promotions of staff

Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) Employees’ Union leaders have urged the corporation’s Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao to immediately withdraw the notification allowing the retired RTC clerical staff to be reappointed on an outsourcing basis to fill the vacant posts across all depots and units in the State.
In a letter addressed to Mr. Tirumala Rao on Thursday, union’s State president P. Damodara Rao and general secretary G.V. Narasayya said despite a large number of vacancies, eligible employees have not been given promotions in the last five years, resulting in many of them retiring without career advancement.
Now, when the existing employees are anticipating promotions, the APSRTC management’s decision to fill these vacancies with retired personnel on an outsourcing basis has caused severe distress among employees, they said.
Calling the move a ‘gross injustice in promotions’, they said in APSRTC, higher officials get promoted based on seniority, while lower-level employees face delays.
Instead of addressing the delay in promotions, the management is trying to fill the vacancies with retired employees, which we are opposed to, they said.
They demanded immediate withdrawal of the notification and steps to ensure justice to the employees.
