District Collector O. Anand on Wednesday informed the officials of Education and Social Welfare departments to ensure that all RO water purification plants installed in schools and hostels were restored to working condition without delay.
Addressing a review meeting with both the departments here, the Collector issued a series of instructions aimed at improving school infrastructure, student safety and welfare initiatives.
Mr. Anand asked the officials to chalk out an action plan to bring back all out-of-school children to classrooms under the ‘Badi Nadu’ programme. He said that most teacher vacancies in municipal schools had been filled, and the remaining posts would also be filled on a priority basis through the Higher Education department.
Referrimg to the school safety audit, Mr. Anand directed the officials not to conduct classes in dilapidated rooms and to certify buildings that require urgent repairs. He stressed the need for functional toilets, running water and new toilet proposals wherever required through RWS coordination.
Reviewing welfare hostels, KGBVs and gurukulams, the Collector said students must be encouraged to regularly take notes, a step that officials stated had already improved learning levels.
The Collector also reviewed the initiatives under the SC, ST, BC and Minority Welfare departments. Mr. Anand called for strict conduct of statutory meetings, clean hostels, safe drinking water, hygienic kitchens and quality meals as per the prescribed menu.
He further directed departments to identify eligible beneficiaries for welfare schemes under various corporations and to conduct a habitation-level survey in Sugali tandas to verify Aadhaar, ration cards and other entitlements.
