Erode Corporation inducts mobile van to collect taxes

Aiming for 100% tax collection from residents and commercial establishments, the Corporation began collecting taxes through a mobile van on Tuesday.
The city spans 109.52 sq km, with a population of 6.45 lakh across 60 wards in four zones. It comprises 1.69 lakh households and 27,386 commercial establishments. Taxes for property, drinking water, sewerage, garbage collection, and trade are collected from residents and establishments at the central office, four zonal offices, and online. Tax collection centres operate on holidays, and payments are accepted through various mobile payment apps. Additionally, staff are involved in door-to-door tax collection across all four zones.

To ensure 100% tax collection by March 31, 2025, the civic body has deployed a vehicle to expedite tax collection and benefit taxpayers. The vehicle visits one ward daily, allowing taxpayers to pay their taxes and receive a payment receipt on the spot. An official said the response from residents has been encouraging, as they can conveniently pay their taxes at their doorsteps. Prior information is provided in each ward regarding the arrival of the vehicle for tax collection, the official added.
