The byelection to the Erode (East) Assembly constituency witnessed a 67.97% voter turnout on Wednesday (February 5, 2025). This is lower than the 74.79% recorded during the 2023 byelection held in the constituency.
Polling began at 7 a.m. at 237 polling stations across 53 locations in the constituency and concluded at 6 p.m. The voter turnout at various intervals was as follows: 10.95% by 9 a.m., 26.03% by 11 a.m., 42.41% by 1 p.m., 53.63% by 3 p.m., and 64.02% by 5 p.m. The decline in voter turnout could be attributed to the AIADMK and BJP boycotting the byelection, as many of their functionaries and cadres refrained from voting. Though brisk polling was observed in the morning, the final hour saw a poor turnout at most polling stations.
The counting of votes will take place at the Government College of Engineering in Chithode on Saturday (February 8, 2025).
