Smart Glasses: Cool Tech, Big Questions
Imagine glasses that can tell you someone’s name, what they do, or even translate a sign in a different language — just by looking through them. Sounds like magic, right? Smart glasses are becoming more popular, and they might change our lives, just like smartphones did. Last year, more than a million pairs of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses were sold! Big companies like Google, Amazon, and Samsung are racing to make even cooler versions.
But before we jump in, we need to be careful. These glasses can also bring some problems. For example, a student at Harvard used smart glasses to find personal information about someone on campus. Imagine how scary that could be if strangers could learn private stuff about you just by looking at you.
There’s also the risk of losing real-life connections. We already spend a lot of time on our phones instead of talking to family and friends. What if, with smart glasses, we start living in a world of holograms instead of focusing on the people and places around us? On a train, at a party, or even during a school reunion, we might end up seeing more digital stuff than real faces.
Smart glasses are super exciting, but we need to think about how to use them safely and wisely. Technology should help us, not take us away from what really matters: the world and people around us.
