The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Salem Narcotics Intelligence Bureau-CID (NIB-CID) police seized ganja from a train in the district on Saturday (September 20, 2025).
Acting on a tip-off that ganja was smuggled in a train to Kerala via Salem, the RPF along with the NIB-CID checked the Dhanbad-Alappuzha Express train on Saturday. The police found two unclaimed bags in the unreserved coach and found 30 kg of ganja. The police seized the drug and are investigating further.
Likewise, acting on a tip-off, the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) police checked buses headed to Salem from Chennai on Friday (September 19, 2025) night and arrested two persons, K. Prasath (23) and K. Vijay (19), residents of Namakkal district who smuggled ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Salem. The police also seized four kg of ganja from them. They were remanded in prison on Saturday.
