Former South Africa cricketer Gary Kirsten joined Namibia as a consultant for the men’s team ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Kirsten, who served as India’s head coach during its 2011 World Cup-winning campaign, has also helmed South Africa and, most recently, Pakistan.

His appointment comes at a pivotal time for Namibia’s men’s side, as it looks to amp up its preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

“It is indeed a privilege to work with Cricket Namibia,” Kirsten said in a statement from the national governing body. “I have been thoroughly impressed with the dedication and determination to create a high-performance cricket environment.

Their new state-of-the-art cricket stadium is a testament to their commitment to making sure their national teams are competing with the best cricket countries in the world. Their senior men’s national team is performing well, and I look forward to adding value to their preparation for the T20 World Cup in February next year.”

Kirtsne, who was part of the Gujarat Titans’ coaching staff in the Indian Premier League (IPL), will work closely with the National Men’s Head Coach, Craig Williams, providing input.
