Google has expanded its AI-powered virtual try-on feature to India, allowing users to see how they’d look in an outfit before buying it. The new “try it on” icon will now appear on apparel listings across Google, and tapping it lets shoppers preview styles on themselves instantly. The tool, part of Google’s broader Shopping Graph ecosystem, aims to make online fashion purchases more confident and convenient for Indian users.

According to Google, “Envisioning how an outfit will look on you while shopping online can be tough, especially during the busy festive season. Now shoppers in India can virtually try billions of apparel listings on themselves, just by uploading a photo.”
Google has announced that its AI-powered virtual try-on shopping feature, first unveiled at Google I/O in May and rolled out to limited users in July, is now officially available in India. The expansion marks a major step in making AI-driven shopping tools accessible to a much larger audience.
The feature allows Indian users to try on billions of apparel items listed across Google’s Shopping Graph. It can be accessed via AI Mode, Google Shopping, product pages on Google Images, and anywhere else apparel listings appear. Users simply need to spot the “try it on” button, upload their photo, and the tool instantly shows how the selected outfit would look on them.
Google says the tool is powered by a custom fashion-focused image generation model that understands human body structure as well as how different fabrics, like cotton, wool, and polyester, stretch, fold, and drape across various body shapes. Users can revisit previous looks, save favourites, or share outfit previews with friends via messaging and social media, making the experience more personalised and social.
Alongside this rollout, Google is also preparing a major refresh of the Gemini app. According to Group Product Manager Logan Kilpatrick, the company has invested significantly in improving the app’s interface, promising a cleaner, more streamlined, and clutter-free experience for users in upcoming updates.
