Gurjada Apparao’s teachings must be included in textbooks: Minister

Minister for MSME and NRI Affairs Kondapalli Srinivas on Sunday said that mahakavi Gurajada Apparao’s life history and teachings need to be included in text books, so future generations get to know about the great writer. Along with Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy and Joint Collector Sedhu Madhavan, he paid tributes to Gurajada Apparao at his house on the occasion of his 163rd birth anniversary. He also participated in a rally from the heritage structure to Gurajada junction and garlanded a statue of the mahakavi.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the government is considering the suggestion of writers and poets regarding the celebration of the mahakavi’s birth anniversary as a State festival from next year. Vizianagaram MP Kalisetti Appala Naidu said that Gurajada Apparao fought against social evils by writing books like ‘Kanyasulkam’ which highlighted the condition of girls who were married at an early age.
Gurajada Samskrutika Samakhya representatives M. Venkateswara Rao, Kapuganti Prakash, Vizianagaram Powra Vedika president Bhisetti Babji, urged the government to construct an auditorium at the site adjacent to Gurajada Apparao’s house. Gurajada Vignan Kendram convener, K. Srinivasa Rao, association members G. S. Chalam, V. Yamini and others said that Gurajada Apparao brought laurels to Telugu literature. Gurajada Apparao’s great grandson Venkateswara Prasad and his wife G. Indira were also present.
