H.D. Kumaraswamy, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel and Mandya MP, has extended financial support to the teachers of Mysugar School in Mandya as they have been facing severe hardships without salaries for nearly 15 months. To clear the pending dues, the Minister donated his own salary which he gets as a member of Parliament.
As promised earlier, Mr. Kumaraswamy visited the school on December 6 morning and handed over a cheque worth ₹19,94,200 to the school management. The teachers expressed their gratitude to the Minister on the occasion.
Responding to them, he said that working without pay is extremely difficult and that he fully understood their suffering. “I had assured you that I would stand by you during this crisis, and I have kept my word,” he said.
Describing Mysugar School as a “historic institution”, Mr Kumaraswamy said it holds a distinct place in Mandya’s history and he does not wish to see it face distress. He added that he would appeal to the State government to ensure the school’s survival. The Minister also emphasised that education should be provided at the institution at least up to the pre-university level.
“I will not claim that the school can be developed overnight. Let us work on its growth step by step. My aim is to make Mysugar School the number one school in Mandya,” he stated.
Mr. Kumaraswamy said he had pushed for free education to be provided from the LKG to pre-university level at Mysugar School and had taken up this request with the Adichunchanagiri Swami, who responded positively. Further discussions will be held under the Swami’s guidance after the conclusion of the Parliament session.
The Minister added that he would also raise the issue with Congress leaders and emphasised that there is no need to politicise matters concerning the school.
