South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen announced retirement from international cricket with immediate effect on Monday.
Klaasen took to social media to make the announcement. “It is a sad day for me as I announce that I have decided to step away from international cricket,” Klaasen posted on Instagram.
“It took me a long time to decide what’s best for me and my family for the future,” he added.

The major reason for this decision is to spend more time with his family. “I look forward to spending more time with my family, as this decision will allow me to do so,” his post further read.
In January last year, the 32-year-old announced his test retirement to concentrate on white-ball cricket. Overall, Klaasen played 60 ODIs, 58 T20Is and four Tests for the Proteas.
His last appearance for South Africa came in March earlier this year, during the ICC Champions Trophy semifinal against New Zealand. Klaasen departed for a seven-ball three as the Proteas went on to lose the game by 50 runs.
