Himmat Singh held his nerve to smash a six off the final ball as Delhi sealed a dramatic six-wicket win over Tamil Nadu in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. With two needed off the last delivery, Himmat clubbed Gurjapneet over point, where Shahrukh Khan could not hold on, sparking wild celebrations after Delhi had survived a run-out scare off the penultimate ball.
Chasing 199, Delhi was given a flying start by Yash Dhull and Priyansh Arya, who added 52 in 5.1 overs. Arya fell for a brisk 35 off 15 to Sonu Yadav, but Dhull kept the tempo going in a key stand with skipper Nitish Rana (34 off 26). Dhull top-scored with 71 off 46 balls, striking four fours and four sixes, before departing with 28 still required. Ayush Badoni kept Delhi on course with a composed 41 off 23.
Earlier, quickfire half-centuries from Tushar Raheja (72 off 41) and Amit Sathvik (54 off 40) powered Tamil Nadu to a strong total despite an expensive outing for Varun Chakaravarthy (0/47).
Tamil Nadu remains winless after two matches in the tournament, while Delhi opened its account with this victory.
