Hong Kong Sixes: India edges past Pakistan by 2 runs in rain-affected game
India registered a thrilling two-run win over arch-rival Pakistan in the ongoing edition of the Hong Kong Sixes cricket tournament at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground on Friday.
India managed to post 86/4 in its quota of six overs, powered by Robin Uthappa’s 11-ball 28. Dinesh Karthik (17 off 6) and Bharat Chipli (24 off 13) chipped in with cameos, and ably supported Uthappa.
Pakistan opener Khawaja Nafay got off to a blistering start and scored 18 off the first over of the chase. Stuart Binny struck in the second over to remove Maaz Sadaqat (7 off 3) early.
With Nafay (18 off 9) and Abdul Samad (16 off 6) at the crease, Pakistan reached 41/1 in three overs and looked set to chase down the total.
However, the match was halted due to rain. As it continued to shower relentlessly, the match officials decided to cut the game short, subsequently leading to a narrow win for India.
India leads pool A with two points, while Pakistan is second, with one win and a loss in two games. Kuwait is languishing at the bottom as it is yet to collect a point.
What is the format for Hong Kong Sixes 2025?
The group stage of the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 will follow a single round-robin format, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the quarterfinals. From there, the competition will shift to a single-match knockout stage. Teams that do not qualify for the main-draw knockouts will compete in bowl and plate fixtures to determine their final standings.
