In a major operation against illegal sand mining and transport, the Hyderabad City Police have registered 26 cases and seized 1,196 tonnes of illegally transported sand between February 14 and 19.

The week-long special drive, conducted under the supervision of C.V. Anand, DG and Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, resulted in seizure of eight vehicles used in transporting the sand and 57 individuals involved in the illegal trade were arrested.

Police said that illegal sand transportation not only causes ecological damage but also fuels organised crime networks. By targeting transporters and intermediaries, the operation aimed to disrupt the broader network involved in the illegal trade. “We are determined to safeguard our natural resources and uphold the law. Public cooperation is essential in helping us tackle these crimes effectively,” said Commissioner C.V. Anand.
