Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant spoke about the various aspects of the sport he has learnt from the different captains he has played under, after being announced as the skipper of the Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants on Monday.
“Yes, I’ve learnt from a lot of captains and a lot of my seniors because I feel you don’t have to only learn from your captain. There are a lot of senior players who have experience of the game, the way the game is moving forward. There’s a lot you can learn from all the seniors, not just the captain,” said Pant.
When asked about the impact of Indian captain Rohit Sharma on his leadership skills, Pant said, “It’s difficult to be very specific. With Rohit bhai, I have learnt how to care for a player. And I feel the same as a captain when I captain a side.
“I feel if you give confidence and trust to a player, he will do things you can’t even imagine for you and for the team. And that’s the kind of ideology we like to have,” added Pant.

Pant was signed by LSG for a record-breaking sum of Rs 27 crore at the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, last year. He had been released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the auction. He had been part of the Capitals’ set-up since 2016 and was made captain ahead of the 2021 season, in place of the injured Shreyas Iyer. Pant was retained as captain for IPL 2022.
