‘Ignored by advice, overwhelmed by money and power’: Anna Hazare slams Arvind Kejriwal | India News

NEW DELHI: Social activist Anna Hazare, whose movement against corruption brought Arvind Kejriwal into limelight, on Saturday slammed the former Delhi chief minister for focusing on the issue of liquor and being swayed by power and money.
“I have always said that a candidate’s conduct and thoughts should be pure. His life should be without blame and full of sacrifice. These qualities let voters have faith on him.

I told this (to Arvind Kejriwal) but he did not pay heed, and finally, he focused on liquor. Why did this issue raise? He was overwhelmed by money and power,” Anna Hazare said as trends showed Kejriwal losing Delhi elections.
His comments came as the results for the Delhi assembly elections were being declared, with the Aam Aadmi Party trailing the BJP as per trends.
Kejriwal was trailing BJP’s Parvesh Verma by 1,170 votes in the New Delhi constituency after briefly leading, according to the Election Commission.
At the end of the eighth round, Kejriwal had 18,097 votes, while Verma secured 19,267. The BJP was leading in 45 of Delhi’s 70 assembly seats. While AAP has dominated Delhi politics for the last decade, the BJP has not been in power since 1998. Congress, hoping for a resurgence, is seemingly heading towards another washout. The February 5 elections saw a 60.54% voter turnout from 1.55 crore eligible voters.
