South Africa all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy on Sunday notched up his maiden Test century during his side’s second match against India at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.
Playing just his eighth Test, Muthusamy reached the milestone in 192 balls. Muthusamy’s previous best was an unbeaten 89, which he scored against Pakistan in Rawalpindi earlier this year.
The 31-year-old hails from the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa, and made his Test debut against India in 2019 at Visakhapatnam. Notably, Muthusamy’s maiden Test wicket was Virat Kohli. However, being a left-arm orthodox bowler, he’s not enjoyed a consistent run in the team due to Keshav Maharaj.
Though Muthusamy was born in Durban, he has familial connection to India. His father hails from Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu.
He made his debut in the T20Is and ODIs in 2025 and has been knocking on the door for a place in the starting lineup. He was part of the World Test Championship-winning squad but did not feature in a single game through the cycle.
But he impressed in Pakistan, picking a 10-wicket haul in Rawalpindi to go with his unbeaten 89. Although, he missed the first Test against India in Kolkata, he was picked for the Guwahati Test.
