The India squad for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa was announced on Sunday, with KL Rahul named captain of the side.

Shubman Gill’s injury during the first Test against the Proteas has ruled him out of the series, and Rahul will take up the leadership role in his absence. Rishabh Pant has been named his deputy.

Veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have also been picked. The two had combined for a match-winning partnership in the third ODI of the previous series away at Australia.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who last played in the 50-over format for India in 2023, has also been recalled to the team. Ravindra Jadeja has been chosen ahead of Axar Patel as the spinning all-rounder in the squad along with Washington Sundar.

Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been rested, so has his Test bowling partner, Mohammed Siraj. Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy will form the pace battery.
