India squad for South Africa T20I series: Hardik Pandya returns; Shubman Gill’s participation subject to fitness clearance
India announced its squad for the five-match T20I series against South Africa starting on December 9.
Pace all-rounder Hardik Pandya is back in the Indian squad, after proving his fitness in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match on Tuesday.
This was his first competitive outing since India’s Super Fours fixture against Sri Lanka at the 2025 Asia Cup in September. Pandya was forced to sit out the final against Pakistan due to an injury, which also saw him miss the Australia tour.
India’s Test and ODI skipper Shubman Gill has also been added to the squad. But his participation is subject to fitness clearance from BCCI COE.
Gill had suffered a neck sprain during the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata.
Suryakumar Yadav will continue to lead the side as it continues its preparation for the T20 World Cup set to happen early next year.
