Indian Navy to Commission INS Androth at Vizag Naval Dockyard on October 6

Indian Navy to commission its second state-of-the-art Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), Androth, at Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam on October 6
The Indian Navy is set to commission INS Androth, the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW‑SWC), at a ceremonial event at the Naval Dockyard here on October 6. The ceremony will be presided over by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
The commissioning of INS Androth marks another milestone in the Navy’s steady stride towards capability enhancement and indigenisation. The induction is part of a sustained momentum that has seen several state‑of‑the‑art warships join the fleet in recent months.
Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, Androth stands as a testament to India’s growing maritime self‑reliance, with over 80% indigenous content. The ship reaffirms the Navy’s commitment to strengthening home‑grown capabilities through innovative technologies and indigenous solutions, according to a release issued here on Sunday.
The addition of Androth will significantly bolster the Navy’s anti‑submarine warfare capabilities, particularly in countering threats in littoral waters. It highlights the Navy’s continued focus on indigenisation, innovation, and capability development, while underscoring GRSE’s vital role in reinforcing India’s maritime security framework.
Recent inductions — INS Arnala, INS Nistar, INS Udaygiri, INS Nilgiri, and now Androth — reflect the Navy’s balanced growth across the spectrum of maritime operations. Above all, these vessels embody the spirit of Aatmanirbharta (self‑reliance), combining indigenous design expertise, innovation, and a high percentage of locally sourced equipment from Indian shipyards and industries.
