World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of Davis Cup Finals due to an injury, the Spaniard announced on social media on Tuesday.
“I’m very sorry to announce that I won’t be able to play with Spain in the Davis Cup in Bologna. I have an edema in the sciatica of my right leg and the medical recommendation is not to compete. I’ve always said that playing for Spain is the biggest thing there is and I was very excited to be able to help fight for the Davis Cup. I’m going home heartbroken, “ said the 22-year-old Alcaraz in an post.
Alcaraz faced a hamstring issue in the same leg which required medical attention during his loss to Jannik Sinner in the summit clash of the ATP Finals in Turin on Sunday. The Spaniard managed to complete the match with a strapping.
Davis Cup Finals are being held from November 18 to 23 in Bologna, Italy with Spain set to face Czechia in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Jaume Munar, Pablo Carreno Busta, Pedro Martinez and Marcel Granollers are the other members of the Spanish squad led by non-playing captain David Ferrer.
