The South-East Task Force, along with the Chandrayangutta Police, arrested an inter-State ganja peddler and seized 200 kg of dry marijuana, valued at approximately ₹50 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted a car at Chandrayangutta Flyover at around 8.30 p.m. and apprehended 34-year-old Jadhav Shivaram, a resident of Sangareddy district. The contraband was found in his possession, along with two mobile phones, said the police.

“Investigations revealed that Shivaram had been involved in the transport of ganja since 2015, procuring it from suppliers in Sileru, Visakhapatnam, and Odisha before distributing it to customers in Maharashtra. He, along with his associate Banavath Jaipal, regularly sourced the contraband from a supplier named Subash, a resident of Lamtaput, Odisha. Three days prior to his arrest, Shivaram had travelled to Odisha in his car and purchased 200 kg of ganja at a rate of ₹4,000 per kg. On February 5, he started for Hyderabad, where he was scheduled to meet Jaipal in Shamshabad to discuss selling the drugs for ₹8,000 per kilogram. As per their plan, he was en route to LB Nagar when he was intercepted by the police at Chandrayangutta,” explained the police.

Shivaram has a prior criminal record, having been involved in drug-related and other offences, including cases registered under the NDPS Act at the Excise Police Station, Shamshabad, and another case at Nagaligidda Police Station. The police are now on the lookout for his associates, Subash and Banavath Jaipal, who remain absconding.
