India lost to England by four runs in a Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 league stage fixture on Sunday at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
This was the Women in Blue’s third consecutive loss in the World Cup — the host had lost to South Africa and Australia after winning matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
As it stands, India can still qualify for the semifinals.
So, how can India still qualify for the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 semifinals?
With one semifinal spot left — England became the third side to make the last four — India’s next match against New Zealand becomes crucial, for both teams.
The Women in Blue sit fourth, just ahead of the White Ferns — both on four points but the hosts have a better net run rate.
If India loses against New Zealand, there still may be an outside chance of the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side qualifying for the semis. For that to happen, India will have to beat Bangladesh — who’s all but out of contention — and hope that the Kiwis lose to the English in the final league stage fixture of the tournament.
