NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar will visit Canada next week for a meeting of the G7 foreign ministers in Niagara Region, Ontario, on Nov 11-12. As the two countries ramp up bilateral engagements on the back of the recent thaw in ties, Jaishankar is also expected to have a bilateral meeting with his Canadian counterpart Anita Anand.Later this month, PM Narendra Modi and his counterpart Mark Carney are expected to meet on the margins of the G20 summit in South Africa. They had met at the G7 summit in Canada in June, laying the groundwork for resumption of high-level exchanges between the two countries.Jaishankar is expected to hold talks on Nov 12 with Anand, who visited India last month. Her visit saw India and Canada launching a roadmap to boost cooperation in areas like trade, technology, energy, AI and critical minerals while underlining the significance of law enforcement dialogue to address each other’s security concerns.Modi met Anand during her visit and told her he was looking forward to his upcoming engagements with Carney. India has also invited Carney for the AI summit it will host next year and the Canadian PM is expected to attend.In the joint statement that followed Jaishankar’s meeting with Anand last month, India and Canada sought a constructive and balanced partnership.
