JNTUH online classes to bridge gap for rural colleges, fix faculty shortage 

The initiative is a significant step towards educational equity, say the university officials.

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) in-charge Vice Chancellor and Telangana Council of Higher Education Chairman V. Balakista Reddy on Friday launched a special online classes initiative to provide quality education to university students in the rural constituent colleges.

The initiative is a significant step towards educational equity ensuring that no student is deprived of quality education due to geographical limitations, officials said.

According to Mr. Reddy, the objective of this initiative is to extend quality education available at the main campus to at least 15% to 20% of students in rural constituent colleges. The online classes will be held on Fridays, Saturdays, or as per the availability of faculty.

“Our vision is that every student enrolled at JNTUH, whether in Vanaparthi, Siricilla, Mahbubabad, or any other constituent college, should receive the same quality of education as those at the main campus,” he said.

Fixing faculty shortage

The twin objective of the programme, according to officials, includes fixing the issue of faculty shortage in some institutions. The quality of education is directly impacted by lack of faculty or challenges in recruiting them.

With the online programme, not only is the rural bridge addressed but also students can make the best of the expert faculty who currently teach at the Hyderabad main campus.

As a start, the university is tapping available e-resources and technology, and the initiative will be further extended to more colleges in future.

Presently, JNTUH-Siricilla and JNTUH-Vanaparthi colleges are participating in the initiative.

The inaugural class on Friday was for second-year students on ‘Operating Systems’ by E. Hemalatha of the Department of Computer Science.

Along with Mr. Reddy, those present in the launch were Rector K. Vijayakumar Reddy, Registrar K. Venkateswara Rao, university directors and other officials.
